Helping Heroes

To firefighters, there is no greater measure of courage than burn patients struggling to survive devastating injuries. The heroism of burn survivors inspires the men and women of Manitoba’s Fire Service to volunteer their time and effort in raising funds to support exceptional burn care, treatment, rehabilitation and research.

Welcome to the Firefighters Burn Fund (Manitoba, Canada), web site.

NEW: Research Chair in Burns and Trauma

The Firefighters Burn Fund and the Health Sciences Centre Research Foundation have begun the process of creating a $3 – 5,000,000.00 endowment to support a Chair in Burns and Trauma.

The endowment will provide consistent annual funding for research into may facets of burn and trauma injuries, including areas such as: care, rehabilitation, both physical and psychological, and post discharge concerns.

The Firefighters Burn Fund has committed $1,000,000.00 over 4 years, starting in 2010. You can help by making designated donations to this endowment.

Did you know...

Launched in 1998, the Burn Fund’s annual Survivors Day has since evolved into a two or three-day conference. The only one of its kind in Canada, The Burn Survivors Conference has become a national gathering of burn survivors and health care professionals.

Tragedy in 2007

In late January, 2007 two of our fellow firefighters perished in a house fire and 5 others were injured.

Out of respect for this tragic event, The Firefighters Burn Fund received many donations from across North America. We have taken those funds and purchased a Metabolic Cart for use on the Burn Unit. This device will help ensure the maintenance of the proper nutrient levels required by those patients suffering burn and trauma injuries.
